This matters for us today because so much of our search for healing -- physical, emotional, relational -- instinctively turns toward things that can't ultimately sustain us: control, distraction, other people's validation. Jeremiah models something different. His prayer for healing is inseparable from his declaration of trust: 'for thou art the praise of my praise' -- meaning God alone deserves the credit, and God alone is sufficient.

Bringing This Into Today's Pain
